The disappearance of photography's materiality and the rupture of time render photography both dependent on the material world (requiring the existence of the subject) and denying the material world (replacing the physical with the digital image), capturing time while announcing its death. This paradox makes photography a medium of ‘self-effacement’.In the dialectical relationship between ‘presence’ and ‘absence’, the image becomes a ghost hovering between reality and illusion. In the digital age, this contradiction is continuously amplified, forcing the audience to confront the illusory nature of the image and rethink the boundaries between historical experiences, memories and reality.
